| 1969 - Frank 'Red' Mackie, traditional jazz bassist, guitarist and pianist from New Orleans, Louisiana passed away on this day. 'Red' was born in 1904, and began playing at the young age of twelve. He was the brother of jazz cornetist, 'Dick' Mackie. 'Red' was one of the original 'Invincibles' and 'New Orleans Owls'. He also recorded with the 'Six and 7/8 String Band'. He died in New Orleans. |
