| 1908 - Al Morgan was born on this day. Traditional jazz bassist from New Orleans, Louisiana. He was a famed bass player, and a member of the Morgan musical clan of New Orleans. He seldom played in New Orleans, and spent most of his career touring with Lee Collins in Florida, and with Fate Marable and Sidney Desvigne on the riverboats. He played on the Jones-Collins Astoria Hot Eight recordings. After leaving New Orleans in 1928, he jobbed in New York and California. Al died in Los Angeles in April of 1974 at the age of 65. |
