1966 - Smiley Lewis (Overton Amos Lemons) passed away on this day at the age of 53. Pianist and singer from Dequincy, Louisiana. "I Hear You Knocking". He was a lucky man in many respects. He enjoyed stellar support from New Orleans' ace sessioneers at Cosimo's, benefited from top-flight material and production (by Dave Bartholomew), and left behind a legacy of marvelous Crescent City R&B.
