1911 - Mahalia Jackson was born on this day. Gospel vocalist from New Orleans. She was and still is the 'Undisputed Queen of Gospel'. Mahalia began singing Gospel at the age of four and became the favorite vocalist to many presidents that included Dwight D. Eisenhower, Lyndon B. Johnson and John F. Kennedy. She was always ready to contribute her voice and her time for a good cause. She passed away on January 27, 1972 and her funeral and masses throughout America drew over 100,000 people bidding farewell to Mahalia.
