1887 - (Crying) Sam Collins was born on this day. He was an early blues singer and guitarist, born in Louisiana and raised in McComb, MS. At different times he was also known as Jim Foster, Jelly Roll Hunter, Big Boy Woods, Bunny Carter, and Salty Dog Sam. His best known recording was "The Jail House Blues". He died in Chicago from the effects of heart disease in October 1949, at the age of 62.
