| 1931 - Florenzo Ramos, traditional saxophonist from Mexico died on this day. He was one of the Crescent City's earliest musicians, being born in 1865. He came to New Orleans with the Mexican band during the Cotton Exposition in 1885, and never left. He was one of the founders of the musicians union, and is said to have introduced the saxophone to New Orleans. During his stay in New Orleans, he played with many historical figures,from the band at the French Opera House to Stalebread Lacoume. Florenzo died in New Orleans. |
