| 1953 - Larry Shields, traditional jazz clarinetist from New Orleans, Louisiana died on this day. He born in 1893, and was celebrated for his membership in the 'Original Dixieland Jazz Band', who were the first to record jazz. Larry also played in tom Brown's 'Five Rubes' in vaudeville. He shares composer credits on 'Tiger Rag', 'Original Dixieland One Step', 'Clarinet Marmalade', and others. Larry died in Hollwood, California. |
