1952 - Leon (Ndugu) Chancler was born on this day. A drummer, percussionist, studio musician, composer, producer and a native of Sreveport, Louisiana. By the time he had graduated with his music degree, he had performed with the Gerald Wilson Big Band, Herbie Hancock, and recorded with Miles Davis, Freddie Hubbard, and Bobby Hutcherson, among many others. He works as a percussionist and has played on Michael Jackson's "Billie Jean". He has also worked with Stanley Clarke, Jean-Luc Ponty, Donna Summer, George Duke, Patrice Rushen, Carlos Santana, Hubert Laws, The Crusaders, Frank Sinatra, Weather Report, Lionel Richie, Kenny Rogers, Thelonious Monk, Herbie Hancock and John Lee Hooker. He is an Assistant Adjunct Professor of Jazz Studies at USC. |
