| 1935 - Al Ferrier was born on this day. A rockabilly vocalist and guitarist and a native of Montgomery, Louisiana. He and his 2 older brothers, Brian and Warren, formed a country trio, Al Ferrier & the Boppin' Billies, with Al on vocals and rhythm guitar, Brian on electric lead guitar and Warren on fiddle and double bass. They played dances around South Louisiana. He recorded many singles including "No No Baby", "I'll Never Do Any Wrong", "My Baby Done Gone Away", "It's Too Late Now", and "Let's Go Boopin' Tonight". They all had small success which led Al into early retirement in the 1960's. However with the European rochabilly revival of the 70's Al came back to music and from 1980 onwards, Al has performed many times at the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival. |
