1980 - Leo Soileau, a cajun fiddler and a native of Ville Platte, Louisiana passed away on this day at the age of 76. He recorded more than 100 songs that included "Hackberry Hop," "La Gran Mamou," La Valse De Gueydan," and his greatest hit, "Jolie Blonde." His quartet, the Four Aces, became the Rhythm Boys where they recorded nearly 100 songs in Chicago for Decca records. In the late '40s, Soileau left music to work with his brothers in a general contracting firm in Ville Platte. |
