1949 - Willie (Bunk) Johnson, traditional jazz, trumpet player born in New Orleans, Louisiana passed away on this day in New Iberia, Louisiana at the age of 59. He was a sideman to the legendary, Buddy Bolden, and stepped into national prominence during the New Orleans jazz revival of the 1940's.
