| 1973 - Speckled Red (Rufus Perryman), a blues and boogie-woogie piano player and singer, and a native of Monroe, Louisiana passed away on this day at the age of 80. He's most noted for his recordings of "The Dirty Dozens". Speckled Red was the older brother of Piano Red, their nicknames derived from both men being albinos. He experienced a small revival of interest in his music during the late 1950s and 1960s, around the St. Louis-area jazz scene. He died of cancer in St. Louis. |
