1919 - Robert Henry (Baby Boy) Warren was born on this day. A blues singer, guitarist and a native of Lake Providence, Louisiana. His parents moved to Memphis, and after learning guitar from his older brothers, he worked with Howling Wolf, Robert Lockwood, Jr., Little Buddy Doyle and others during the 1930's. He appeared with Sonny Boy Williamson around 1941, then moved to Detroit. Warren's first recording sessions were in 1949 and 1950 in Detroit. He then recorded again in 1954 and the sides were released by Excello. He was inactive in the 1960's, but his career was revived in the 1970's as he performed at Blues Festivals and toured. Robert passed away in 1977 at the age of 57. |
