| 1981 - Paul 'Polo' Barnes, traditional jazz clarinetist and saxophonist from New Orleans, Louisiana died on this day. His brother, Emile, was also a jazz clarinetist. Paul began with th 'Young Tuxedo Orchestra' and 'Original Tuxedo Orchestra' under Papa Celstin. He also toured with King Oliver, Kid Howard and Johnny St. Cyr before returning to New Orleans from New York. He composed a Papa Celestin orchestra song called 'My Josephine'. Barnes died in New Orleans. |
