| 1888 - Willie Foster was born on this day. Traditional jazz banjoist, violinist and guitarist from McCall, Louisiana. His brother, George 'Pop's Foster, was also a musician and became a world-famous jazz player. Willie frequently worked with his brother around New Orleans at the turn of the century with King Oliver in the Storyville district. During the 1920's, Willie worked the riverboats with Sidney Desvigne and Fate Marable. He recorded for Okeh in the mid twenties with Marable. |
