1972 - Johnny Provenzano, traditional pianist from New Orleans, Louisiana passed away on this day. He was born in 1878, and was one of the earliest piano players specializing in Dixieland. Played in the early 1900's with Johnny Lala, Tony Giardina and the Brunies brothers. He played in the cabarets of the 'tango belt'. These were a group of cafes surrounding the Storyville district. Provenzano died in New Orleans.
