1970 - Otis Rene (Otis J. René Jr.), a songwriter, label owner and a native of New Orleans, Louisiana passed away on this day at the age of 71. Together with his brother they co-wrote "When It's Sleepy Time Down South". During the 1940's he ran the independent rhythm and blues labels Exclusive and Excelsior with his brother Leon.
