| 1958 - August 'Augie' Schellang, traditional jazz drummer from New Orleans, Louisiana died on this day. Augie was born in 1905 and was the nephew of re-knowned musician, Tony Parenti. During his musical career, Schellang played with most of the top New Orleans dixieland and swing bands of the day, including Ellis Stratakos, the Prima-Sharkey orchestra, the New Orleans Rhythm Masters and Wingy Manone. Augie died in New Orleans. |
