1947 - Joseph Majay (Major) Handy was born on this day. A cajun accordionist and a native of St. Martinville, Louisiana. His first professional gig came on bass in a cousin's band. From there played accordion as a bandleader. His first professional gig came on bass in a cousin's band. From there it was back to guitar and eventually accordion as a bandleader. He's released a CD under his own name called "Zydeco Feeling". |
