| 1967 - Louis James, traditional jazz clarinetist, saxophonist and string bassist from Thibodaux, Louisiana passed away on this day. He began in a family band in his hometown in 1905, and came to New Orleans around 1917. He performed with Jack Carey, Frank Duson and Joe Howard (Tulane Orchestra). He played again in his hometown, then recorded with Louis Dumaine until 1949. During the fifties he gigged with Percy Humphrey and at Preservation Hall. James died in New Orleans. |
