1927 - Dewey Balfa was born on this day. Legendary cajun musician from Grand Louis, Louisiana around the Mamou area. He and his brothers formed the 'Balfa Brothers', and learned the cajun music tradition from their father, grandfather and great-grandfather, who were all cajun fiddlers. They recorded a vast body of music that now influences younger cajun musicians to carry on the tradition. Their influences included included Harry Choates, Leo Soileau and Bob Wills. Dewey passed away in Eunice, Louisiana in 1992 at the age of 65.
