| 1898 - Lester 'Monk' Smith was born on this day. Traditional jazz guitarist and clarinetist from New Orleans, Louisiana. He was a member of the Invincibles String Band until 1920. He was also a founder and leader of the New Orleans Owls. 'Monk' died in Bay St. Louis, MS on September 5, 1952. |
