2004 - Illinois Jacquet (Battiste Illinois Jacquet) passed away on this day at the age of 81. Tenor saxophonist, born in Broussard, Louisiana. He was a sideman to Lionel Hampton, Cab Calloway and Count Basie in the 1940's. Later he toured with Jazz at the Philharmonic.
