1943 - Clyde Kerr Jr. was born on this day. A trumpeter, music educator and a native of New Orleans, Louisiana. He was the son of a bandleader, and taught a who's who of New Orleans music. Early in his career he worked as a studio musician, for The Jackson Five, The O'Jays, Aretha Franklin, Tony Bennett, Allen Toussaint, Dr. John and the Neville Brothers. Among his many students were Nicholas Payton, Terence Blanchard, Irvin Mayfield, Christian Scott and Troy "Trombone Shorty" Andrews. Clyde passed away at the age of 67 in August 2010.
