1984 - Herman Sherman, a saxophonist, bandleader and a native of New Orleans, Louisiana passed away on this day at the age of 61. He began working with brass bands around 1940. He played in the Eureka Brass Band, the Onward Brass Band, and the Young Tuxedo Brass Band. He took over the Young Tuxedo Brass Band in 1971 and during his tenure the group toured the United States. He led them until his death.
