1910 - Yvonne (Dixie) Fasnacht was born on this day. She was a native of New Orleans, Louisiana, an artist and musician. In the 30's she toured with The Southland Rhythm Girls, playing Dixieland Jazz. In 1939 her sister Irma and she opened the original, Dixie's at 204 St. Charles Av. Then they moved Dixie's Bar of Music to 701 Bourbon St. in 1949 and closed in 1964. Dixie's was the kind of place where uptown and downtown, straight and gay, celebrities and regular folks would rub shoulders. She passed away on November 13, 2011 at the age of 101.
