1955 - Oscar (The Lone Wolf) Woods, singer, guitarist, songwriter and native of Natchitoches, Louisiana passed away on this day. He was an early blues pioneer on the lap steel & slide guitar. He started playing juke joints in Shreveport. In March 1936 in New Orleans, Woods recorded his best known piece, "Lone Wolf Blues," "Don't Sell It, and Don't Give It Away." They sold well, and he recroded again in 1937. In October 1940, Woods made his final five track recording for the Library of Congress and Alan Lomax. Woods died in Shreveport in December 1955. |
