1978 - Louis Prima, jazz trumpeter and vocalist from New Orleans passed away on this day. Came from a New Orleans musical family that included his brother, Leon, who was also a trumpeter. Prima led his own kids band in the late twenties that included a ten year old, Irving Fazola. He became very popular in the thirties as the leader of a Big Swing Band and made several films. He also was famous for his duets with wife, Keely Smith. He was the composer of 'Sing, Sing, Sing' and 'Jump, Jive An Wail'. Louis died in New Orleans. |
