| 1993 - Vernon Winslow (Doctor Daddy-O), a disc Jockey and a native of Chicago passed away on this day at the age of 82. Doctor Daddy O was his radio surname. He wrote under the name Poppa Stoppa and tutored many white deejays who used the Poppa Stoppa nickname in New Orleans. He was fired from WJMR for talking into the mic when a white deejay didn't show for his shift. He then moved to WWEZ, and was billed as "New Orleans First Coloured Disc Jockey". His show called Jivin' with Jax was the top-rated in New Orleans. During his career he worked for WJMR, WYLD, WMRY, WWEZ and WJBW. |
