| 1900 - Albert 'Abbie' Brunies was born on this day. Traditional jazz cornetist from New Orleans, Louisiana. He was a member of the famous Brunies musical family, which included his brothers George, Henry, Merritt and Richard. Early in his career he played with Papa Laine groups in Bucktown and Milneburg, which were resorts in the early 1920's. He also led the Halfway House Orchestra. Moved to Biloxi, Miss. Where he led various bands until he died. He died in Biloxi in October of 1978. |
