1938 - Dorothy LaBostrie was born on this day. She was born in Rayland, KY. and was one of the most prolific R&B and popular songwriters to emerge from New Orleans. She was raised in Alabama and moved to New Orleans as a teen. She's most well-known for cowriting Little Richard's hit "Tutti Frutti". She also penned the classics "I Will Not Cry" for Johnny Adams and "(You Can Have My Husband, But Please) Do not Mess With My Man" for Irma Thomas. Around 1970 she move to New York and devoted her writing to the church. Dorothy died on November 4, 2007. |
