1901 - Edmond Hall was born on this day. Traditional jazz clarinetist from Reserve, Louisiana. He was the member of a local musical family that included his brothers, Clarence, Herb and Robert. He was one of the most famous New Orleans jazzmen. Began in Reserve, La in 1915 with the Kid Thomas orchestra that included his brothers. In 1920, he was with Buddy Petit and played brief stints with Bud Roussel, Lee Collins, Jack Carey and Chris Kelly. He played in big bands in the thirties in New York with Claude Hopkins and Lucky Millinder. Later during the forties and fifties he played with Louis Armstrong's All-Stars. Edmond died in New York in February, 1967. |
