1947 - Roy Carrier (Joseph Roy Carrier) was born on this day. A Zydeco musician and a native of Lawtell, Louisiana. In 1965, his band Night Rockers began playing regularly at local bars and nightclubs around the area. In 1980 he was able to purchase a small local club in Lawtell, which he named The Offshore Lounge. The club served as a launching pad for musicians such as Geno Delafose and Beau Jocque, and his two sons Chubby and Dikki Du Carrier. In 1989, Carrier quit the offshore work and, with the encouragement of Chubby, began touring with the Night Rockers outside of Louisiana. He passed away on May 3, 2010 at the age of 63. |
