1900 - Abbey (Chinee) Foster was born on this day. A traditional jazz drummer and a native of New Orleans, Louisiana . He was considered one of the all-time greatest New Orleans drummers. He began his career, like many others, in Storyville. He played for Bebe Ridgley's Tuxedo Orchestra. He played with Buddy Petit in the 'Eagle Band' for over 15 years and recorded with Papa Celestin during that time. He had reached new success at Preservation Hall at the time of his death in New Orleans.
