1974 - George Brunies, traditional jazz trombonist from New Orleans died on this day. He was the best-known of the Brunies musical family that included brothers, Albert, Henry and Merritt, and nephew Albert. He was and original member of the 'New Orleans Rhythm Kings'. He performed with Ted Lewis' orchestra and played with Eddie Condon's groups in New York for many years. In the 1960's he led his own groups in Ohio. George died in Chicago, Ill. |
