1930 - Mable John was born on this day. A blues vocalist and native of Bastrop, Louisiana. She was the first female signed by Berry Gordy to Motown's Tamla label and is the sister of R&B singer Little Willie John. After leaving Motown, she spent several years as a Raelette, backing many Ray Charles hits. She received a Pioneer Award from the Rhythm and Blues Foundation in 1994.
