| 1903 - Henry Russ was born on this day. Traditional jazz drummer and string bassist from New Orleans, Louisiana. Henry was a bandleader at the dime-a-dance halls in the late 1920's. During the Depression, he switched to playing trumpet and performed with the WPA and ERA groups, and also played in the Algiers Naval Station Brass Band in Algiers, Louisiana. |
