1939 - Jacques Gauthe’ was born on this day. A clarinetist and soprano saxophonist and a native of Gaujac, France. In France, he studied New Orleans Jazz with Sidney Bechet, Albert Nicholas, Claude Luter, and many others. He and his family moved to New Orleans, LA in 1972 to pursue his career in the culinary arts and his first passion, the jazz music of New Orleans. He was most known for his musical accomplishments, notably his leadership of Jacques Gauthe’s and his Creole Rice Jazz Band at Le Meridien Hotel in the French Quarter of New Orleans. Also a sought after clarinetist and soprano saxophonist, Gauthe’ performed regularly at Preservation Hall, The Palm Court Cafe’, Fritzel’s European Jazz Pub, among many others, in the U.S. and abroad. As a musician, Gauthe’ easily became a mentor to many other local musicians. He passed away in 2007 at the age of 67. |
