| 1923 - Herman Sherman was born on this day. A saxophonist, bandleader and a native of New Orleans, Louisiana. He began working with brass bands around 1940. He played in the Eureka Brass Band, the Onward Brass Band, and the Young Tuxedo Brass Band. He took over the Young Tuxedo Brass Band in 1971 and during his tenure the group toured the United States. He led them until his death in 1984 at the age of 61. |
