1904 - Leo Soileau was born on this day. A cajun fiddler and a native of Ville Platte, Louisiana. He recorded more than 100 songs that included "Hackberry Hop," "La Gran Mamou," La Valse De Gueydan," and his greatest hit, "Jolie Blonde." His quartet, the Four Aces, became the Rhythm Boys where they recorded nearly 100 songs in Chicago for Decca records. In the late '40s, Soileau left music to work with his brothers in a general contracting firm in Ville Platte. He died in August 1980 at the age of 76. |
