1950 - John Lindsay, traditional jazz bassist, tuba player and trombonist from Algiers, Louisiana passed away on this day. He was born in 1894 and is considered one of the giants of New Orleans jazz. He started his career in Storyville in 1910. In the twenties, he played with John Robichaux, A.J. Piron and Papa Celestin. He then, went to Chicago and performed with 'King' Oliver Willie Hightower and Carroll Dickerson. His recording credits include jobs with Piron, Jelly Roll Morton, Jimmie Noone and Richard M. Jones. John died in Chicago. |
