1939 - James Burton was born on this day. Guitarist from Shreveport, Louisiana. He did his apprenticeship on the Louisiana Hayride country radio show backing the likes of Slim Whitman and George Jones. He went on to back Ricky Nelson for many years until the mid-sixties, when he formed a band to back Elvis on his comeback. He stayed with Presley until his death, and appeared on albums by Hoyt Axton, Randy Newman, Buffalo Springfield and Gram Parson's. He also worked extensively with John Denver, and recorded two records of his own.
