| 1936 - Sam Morgan, traditional jazz trumpeter from Bertrandville, Louisiana passed away on this day. Sam was born in 1895, and he was the eldest brother of a New Orleans musical clan. He was a prime bandleader and recording artist in the twenties, but in 1925 his career was momentarily stopped by a stroke. He came back to perform the following year and performed until 1936. He died from the strain of traveling on Mardi Gras day. The 'Tulane Brass Band' and 'Kid Howard Brass Band' marched at his funeral in New Orleans. |
