1929 - Warren Bell Sr. was born on this day. An alto-saxophonist and a native of New Orleans, Louisiana. He started his career with the original Dooky Chase band. Bell went on to play tenor sax with Dave Bartholomew’s band. He also performed with a group at the Caravan (in uptown New Orleans off Freret Street) and at the renowned Mason’s on Claiborne Avenue. His son, Warren Bell, Jr is a well-known news anchor. He passed away in November 2006 at the age of 77.
