2001 - Wilson Anthony (Boozoo) Chavis, a singer, accordianist and composer of creole and zydeco music passed away on this day at the age of 70. He was a native of Lake Charles, Louisiana, and many of his songs have become standards of the zydeco repertoire. He was an inspiration to young Zydeco artists, and his 1955 hit single 'Paper In My Shoe', is considered by some to be the first modern Zydeco recording. He died in Austin, TX. |
