1859 - James B. 'Professor Jim' Humphrey was born on this day. Traditional jazz trumpeter from New Orleans, Louisiana. He was one of the greatest music teachers the city has ever seen. He taught the 'Eclipse Brass Band' of Magnolia Plantation, La., in addition to his son daughters and grandchildren. His protégés included Sam Morgan, Chris Kelly, Harrison Barnes and Sunny Henry. 'Professor Jim' passed away in New Orleans in 1937.
