1926 - Lee Allen was born on this day. Tenor saxophonist, who was a member of the original J&M studio band under production of Dave Bartholemew. Allen shaped the sound of Rock and R&B for all time. He played with such legendary musicians as Ray Charles, Professor Longhair, Little Richard, Fats Domino, Charles Brown and many, many others to numerous to name here. In 1958 he recorded his famous instrumental 'Walkin' With Mr. Lee', which made it to the pop charts. Allen moved to Los Angeles in the late 1950's and remained there until his death. |
