1889 - Willie 'Bunk' Johnson was born on this day. Traditional jazz, trumpet player born in New Orleans, Louisiana. He was a sideman to the legendary, Buddy Bolden, and stepped into national prominence during the New Orleans jazz revival of the 1940's. He died on July 7, 1949 in New Iberia, Louisiana.
