1975 - Arthur 'Zutty' Singleton, traditional jazz drummer from Bunkie, Louisiana passed away on this day. He was born in 1898, and played with all of the early dixieland legends in the Tuxedo Brass Band, Maple Leaf Band, John Robichaux orchestra, 'Big Eye' Louis Nelson and Steve Lewis. Additonally, he played the riverboats with Fate Marable and Charlie Creath, then in Chicago with Louis Armstrong, Jimmy Noone and Doc Cooke. He remained a prominent drummer thoughout the 1950's as a jazz drummer. 'Zutty' died in New York. |
