1918 - Robert A. 'Bumps' Blackwell was born on this day. A producer and assistant to Art Rupe of Specialty Records in Hollywood. Rupe sent 'Bumps' to New Orleans in 1955, where he recorded Little Richard's classic 'Tutti Frutti', and 'Good Golly, Miss Molly'. These sessions most certainly contributed to the R&B explosion in the city. 'Bumps' also recorded and produced the first Sam Cooke sessions, which were also wildly popular. He died on March 9, 1985. |
