1920 - George Mcullum, Sr., traditional jazz cornetist from New Orleans, Louisiana passed away on this day. He was born in 1865, and marched in his first parade band in 1880. He then joined the Barnum and Baily circis band in 1909. He led a regulard brass band for the Jefferson City Buzzards, and played in the Robichaux and Piron dance bands. Two legends of New Orleans dixieland, Manuel Manetta and Sweet Emma Barrett, both played in his bands. He died in New Orleans. |
